What is Work-Based Learning (WBL)
“Career Exploration Opportunities”
Work-Based Learning (WBL) gives students the opportunity to see how classroom instruction connects to the real-world of work and future career opportunities. Through hands-on experiences, exploration, work experience, mentoring at actual job sites and exposure to industry professionals, students gain a deeper understanding of how their education prepares them for life beyond school.
Work-Based Learning Activities Include:
- Apprenticeship/ Internship
- Guest Speaker
- Meet the Pro
- Field Studies
- Career Fairs
- Job shadow, etc
WBL Activities Help Students:
- Develop career awareness by discovering a wide range of industries and professions
- Explore career options through hands-on experiences and exposure to real workplaces
- Build strong workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism
- Apply academic skills to real-world challenges and tasks, helping them understand the “why” behind what they learn in school
