Information About Our School Community Council – DRHS

  • School Data
Diamond Ridge High School’s current student body is under 100 students, composed of mostly Juniors & Seniors.  40% of students are on Free & Reduced Lunch, making DRHS a Title I School demographically.  Middle and High School Title I are not afforded extra funding and Diamond Ridge does not want the extra reporting required for Title I status.  As Diamond Ridge High School grows, this can be reconsidered.

Diamond Ridge’s reading rates are improving!  Diamond Ridge was between 70-80% of students reading below grade level proficiency.  Currently, Diamond Ridge has approximately only 50% of students below grade level.

  • Digital Citizenship Information
Louis Sherman, Diamond Ridge’s Digital Citizenship Coordinator, works to disperse the information provided by Canyons School District to meet Utah State Digital Citizenship Requirements.  Most lessons focus on internet and social media safety.  A detailed report and plan will be provided at the next School Community Council meeting.
    • Canyons School District provides a quality filtering system.
    • Canyons School District provides a classroom management system – LAN School. Teachers may use this to monitor what access a student has and what they are able to view.  Teachers also move about the classroom, being aware of screens.
    • Diamond Ridge provides the required Digital Citizenship Lesson yearly. This year the lesson was presented during opening orientation rotations.  DRHS also uses other natural opportunities in advisory and classrooms to support digital awareness and safety.
    • Diamond Ridge provides resources for parents in our monthly newsletter.

Louis Sherman will provide a follow-up email, including links, to all SCC members.

  • CSI Status
Diamond Ridge is in its third year of Comprehensive School Improvement (CSI) status.  Our graduation rate was below 67% [63%].  Our Building Leadership Team (BLT) has worked tirelessly to develop a plan, using student engagement best practices.  Graduation rates increased from 63% to 69% to 80%, with DRHS helping CSD’s rate increase by 5%.  We are on track to be at/or above 80% again this year!  As this will be the last year of CSI, DRHS will lose approximately $12,000 in funding used to reach CSI goals.

An additional CSI goal is parent engagement.  Don’t forget the Coffee & Conversation event on December 9, 2021 from 8:00 – 9:00 AM.  Parents have years of experience parenting and this information is valuable to schools, especially in tackling attendance issues.  Attendance has become a serious concern at DRHS and district-wide.

Diamond Ridge has implemented Advisory this year.  It is going well, with teachers using Move This World curriculum and restorative circles.  Attendance and grade checks happen each Thursday to determine Friday’s attendance.  Students with five or more absences or tardies or a failing grade in any class are required to come on Friday.

Current Plan

  • Review current LAND Trust & TSSP Plan

Our current plan pays the salary for an additional part-time guidance counselor.  Having additional staffing gives counselors more opportunity to do pro-active activities versus responding only.  Counselors work with students to answer, “What is your dream job?””  The number one determining factor in preventing high school dropout is knowing what to do next!  DRHS’ Senior Portfolio helps with career and college choices after high school.

Review SCC Items

  • Timeline for the Remained of this Year (Below)
  • Review Roles of Members
  • Elect Chair & Vice Chair
    • Amy Johnson, Chair

Additional

  • Moving to new campus next year! Bell View [9800 South 800 East] with a three-phase remodel beginning Summer 2022.  The first phase will be Counseling and Main Offices for Diamond Ridge High School and Entrada.
  • Barry Johnson asked about class size and intake at the new location? As Diamond Ridge grows larger, the intake process and ratio will continue [17:1].
